1. Despicable Me is so precious.
2. This made me weep and seriously wonder if adoption will be part of our journey as a family. http://www.kellyskornerblog.com/2011/01/show-us-your-life-tell-us-your-adoption.html
(I have no idea if that link will work since I'm posting from my phone. If it doesn't, take the time to copy and paste and get the Kleenex.)
3. MomSpit is awesome!!!! http://www.momspit.com/
4. The number of new Facebook users in Egypt in the last 12 days is unbelievable. Something like millions and millions. PRAY for the great nation off Egypt. May God's name be made famous through these tumultuous days.
5. Once again the Apple tv has failed us. Boo Apple! For all the amazing products you've given the world (can I get an amen for the iPad, iPhone 4, and iTunes nation?!) you really screwed this one up! Number 4 Apple tv is headed back to the store. Boo.
6. I really can't end on such a sour note so instead I'll end with this...
7. Being forced to watch the Mecum Auto Auction is not as awful and torturous as it may sound. However, I believe it will soon be both awful torturous. But in this singular moment...I'm good.
8. Did that one sound sour too?
9. Sorry.
10. That's all I've got.
You're welcome.

A post to keep the earth spinning safely.
I am in bed. It's 12:54 in the pm and yes I am still in my pjs too. I got run over by whatever my kids had yesterday. It's bad enough to force The Music Man to work from home today. He's pulling a double. Full time work and full time daddy. Not to mention full time nurse to me.
This isn't exactly what I had in mind to start my week. In fact I had planned to post about the Awake21 fast my church is doing starting today. We're just one of hundreds of churches around the world joining together for a time of fasting and prayer. But seeing as I can barely lift my head off this pillow, you'll have to settle for this short list of random (drug-induced?) nonsense. So without further ado...
1. Last night The Girl and I watched some skating and gymnastics extravaganza on NBC. Did you see it? It left me feeling surprisingly unfulfilled. In fact I would even go so far as to say I was a tad bit annoyed by the whole thing.
Main two reasons:
1. Lonestar outlasted their 15 minutes of fame by about 10 years or so. I felt bad for them. Middle age guys trying to hold on to some sort of coolness instead of embracing the double chin, balding head, and the beer belly that is so obviously theirs.
2. Gymnasts are not meant to do group numbers. Ever. Yet there they were: group number after dancing group number. The whole thing was uncomfortable and just plain awkward.
2. There is not a book written by Tracie Peterson that I don't love. That woman knows how to write a story.
3. My parents lost a close friend of theirs yesterday morning. She had been diagnosed recently with stage 4 liver cancer. It wasn't easy. Death never is. But this was especially hard because it happened so fast.
4 My niece will be six in another couple weeks. I want to make her something but I'm not sure what yet. Any suggestions?
5. I really don't have anything left to say, but it's impossible for me to leave a list at just four things. I'm afraid the earth would fall off it's axis if I did, and no one would be happy about that.

The post in which I take flattery to the next step: Imitation...
(...not to be confused with intimidation, which would take this post in an entirely different direction. One in which I'm not willing to go.)
I am long time reader of the awesome Big Mama! She makes me laugh. Oh does she make me laugh. In fact let me go out on a ledge and say that she's in my top five favorite blogs to read. I read every. Single. Post. (Other contenders for top five include Boo Mama, Dooce, and this should go without saying, Ree. I realize that this only makes a top four but that's an even number and I have a thing against even numbers. Besides I like keeping a spot open. It allows me the freedom to rotate in my favorite blogs du jour.)
Anyway...back to Big Mama. Every Friday she does a fashion post. (See for example: today's edition.) I'm usually with her on every suggestion and recommendation. She has introduced me to some really great stores I had yet to hear about (Naartje, Boden, Free People, etc.) and we share a love affair with Anthropologie.
I'm not trying to horn in on her Fashion Friday thing, but she has inspired me over the years. I love fashion, accessories, shoes, and handbags. Anyone who has known me for any length of time should know that. So I thought I'd try a Fashion Friday post for myself. I'm not saying that this will happen every week or anything...but for today, let's see what will happen...
:::
I think for me the best place to start is with the things that I am currently loving. A list...in no particular order...
1. The Drop Cable Open Cardigan
I love this sweater. Although, now that I'm looking at it on the model, I realize that mine is too big and I like the charcoal one better. BUT, I do love this sweater. It's soft, warm, cozy, and goes with everything!
2. Skinny Jeans from NY and Company
These jeans are fantastic! And sweet mother of Abraham Lincoln! Did you see the price right now??? I picked up a slightly lighter wash of these earlier this fall for what I thought was a steal then (apparently not!). They were my first attempt at a skinny jean because I'm a curvy girl and any time a tapered leg is put on a curvy girl, bad things can happen. I believe that these jeans are the exception. They enhance the curvy, in a good way, mind you.
3. The Machie Gray Suede Boots
These boots...Mmm...these boots... They are amazing! So comfortable and so cute with the above skinnies and sweater.
:::
So there you have it. The short list of what I am currently in love with. These three pieces are in a constant rotation. Really you can't go wrong with any combination of the above. In fact...this post has inspired me to wear these pieces all together today.
I do apologize for the nature of this photo...I was in the bathroom at church and this was the only way to show you that I was in fact wearing the boots recommended above. I was also about to fall over.
Please note the super duper cute scarf (this link isn't to my scarf, but I got mine a while ago and this was the closest one like it) and phone case (a Christmas gift from my kiddos). Both should have their very own Fashion Friday post. Someday...

Hiatus
You might have noticed that I've taken a bit or a hiatus for the past 2-ish months. It was a much needed break. Not that my blogging schedule has ever been heavy. Its just that there was SO much other stuff going on that blogging wasn't even on my list of priorities.
School was the main thing that's occupied my time, thoughts, days, DREAMS! During the last few days of vacation I began to order books so they'd be waiting for me when I got home. And what do you know! For a good week after we got home I got boxes of books every day. Talk about a high!
Once I had the books in hand I went nuts organizing our year and curriculum. Honestly I haven't stopped. I'll be sharing more about our curriculum in later posts as it's a work in progress. Actually, it's a living breathing thing that grows and moves and changes daily. Sometimes hourly. Ok it can be moment by moment some days.
I am now feeling a bit or the craziness begin to subside. We're in our fourth week already. We've firmly established school into our routine again and I {{{think}}} that we've discovered a routine that will work for us.
So for now I just wanted to check back in. Here's are pics from my phone of my babes...

A random list from my vacation thus far...
1. My husband's family has no chance. I have fully and completely taken them as my own. I love them to pieces.
2. Pastor Mike was the guy who called out my man 14 years ago. Four days later, at a Black Crows concert the Music Man surrendered his life to Christ. He's never looked back. Finally I got to meet Pastor Mike. And it thrilled my heart to do so.
3. Where do I begin with #3? It really deserves a post in and of itself. Actually, I could write an entire book about #3, but then that would turn into a 4-book series that would eventually be bought by a production studio to be made into a movie which would then be turned into a tv show which would run for 10 seasons before going into syndication for the rest of time. Of course there'd be the spinoffs and reruns and reunions. It would be crazy. So I'll just keep #3 as simple as I can for this post.
Through the magic that is Facebook, I have my BFF from junior high securely back in my life. Our friendship was fast and furious but cut waaaaay too short. NOW!!! It's like nothing ever changed except now we're married with kids and mortgages and all sorts of adult things. The best part of all of this is that we've spent just about every day with her and her husband because the live 20 minutes away from my inlaws!!!!! And have been here for 4 years. I never knew!
But that's not even the best part.
Ready???
In a few very short weeks she will live only 45 minutes from me AT HOME!!!!!!! We've already begun planning the weekly lunch dates and play dates and shopping trips and daycations into the City.
I feel like I've been given the most precious gift. A second chance at a friendship I always knew got cut short. Maybe we just weren't ready for each other when we were 12. Twenty years later we ARE. SO. READY.

Birthday Dinner of Champions: Fried Bananas topped with Rice and Sausage
The other night I had a dream about my brother. It was bizarre. To say the least.
You see it's been THREE YEARS since I've seen my brother. ***GASP!!!*** How can that be!?!?! It truly is a tragedy. Life has made if difficult for both of our families to get together. We live a thousand miles apart. Literally. And both he and my husband have demanding jobs that don't allow for a whole lot of vacation time. The times that we do get we all spend it visiting parental units. Siblings get pushed to the back burner. It is what it is.
BUUUUUUUTTTTTTT!!! In just a few very short, and fast approaching weeks, we are road-tripping it to see my awesome bro and fabulous sister-in-love and amazing niece and nephews.
I.
CAN.
NOT.
WAIT.
I'm not the only one either. I got this cute text from my SIL...
My baby girl cannot wait to hang out with her Uncle Josh! She even put it on our Summer To-Do List along with hug cousins!
Anyhoo...there's excitement a-plenty coursing through our homes! And what better way to say...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE GUY!!!!
...than a post devoted to how much we miss him, love him, and are so excited to see him? I can't think of any.
Unless perhaps this is better...

T-minus 7 days and counting...
In roughly 182 hours The Music Man and I will leave our children with my mother and fly across the Atlantic Ocean to spend the next two weeks in Madrid, Spain. International Media Missions, based in Madrid, invited us to come and contribute to some projects they are currently working on. (And when I say that WE will be working on them, I mean The Music Man will be working on them.)
I will be blogging our trip as much as possible, which should be pretty regularily, considering we are going to Madrid and not on some African safari. Although The Music Man did text his way through his African safari so I guess I really have no excuse NOT to blog my way through Spain, right?
This week is jam packed with to-do lists to check off. I haven't made a list of my lists yet, but trust me, I will. On one of those to-do lists is listed "Post about upcoming trip." Real specific, huh? So that's what you get this week. A bunch (or one or two) posts about where we're going, how we're working with, and what we'll be doing while we're there.
Disfrutar!
(That means enjoy in Spanish, although I'm not really sure. I just googled it. I don't really know any Spanish, so it could mean Paco is chewing gum for all I know.)

What I'm NOT Doing...
Original post date was to have been two years ago today. Hmm... What I'm NOT doing today, two years later...
Today and tomorrow are supposed to be a day of doing household projects in preparation for this little karate kid in my belly. I told The Music Man yesterday that I'm loosing that nesting feeling and delayed 2nd trimester energy fast. I am becoming more and more uncomfortable and my feet are beginning to swell just a bit. There is still so much to do, and I'm afraid that my motivation has peaked and is now waning. I've moved from nesting to desperately wanting to finally hold this baby in my arms, not my belly.
- Being pregnant
- Having pity party about baby showers
- Whining about my upcoming birthday
- Getting a pedicure
:::
So, this is what's on the agenda for the weekend:
- Rearrange the kids' bedroom to make room for baby.
- Clean out the bathroom closet and cupboards to make room for all the stuff currently residing on the changing table.
- Dig out remaining baby gear from the shed and figure out what is still usable and what needs to be replaced.
- Make a master list of everything else that needs to be bought before we are ready for baby.
- Name this baby.
:::
(WARNING: What follows can only be described as a full blown pity party. I'm sorry to do this to you, but this is my blog and my journal of sorts. Besides I'm very pregnant and emotional so I need your pity and support. Ok, here goes...)
On another semi-related note, I'm a little bummed out. Call me crazy, but why are there no baby showers given for second babies? It just seems like no one feels the need to celebrate this second baby's upcoming arrival or the fact that I am miraculously pregnant after two miscarriages. This may sound selfish, but I just don't get it. This time around I am far from any family, which is making this harder yet.
Don't get me wrong, my friends here are excited about this baby, but it's just not the same as having my family close. There are so many times when I have wanted to work on something for the baby with my mom or sisters, but can't because they're hundreds of miles away. I miss them and the excitement they have over this little addition to our big family.
And, oh my goodness, so many of my girlfriends here read this blog and I don't want anyone to think I'm fishing for a baby shower. That's not why I'm writing this. Maybe it's just because it's rainy outside today which is making me a little down and out.
And, I need a pedicure.
AND I'm turning 30 on Thursday and it will most likely be a day like every other, but it's a huge deal for me!
Why, oh why, is my family scattered all over so far away from me. I need them here!!!

From My DVR
Originally scheduled for posting on September 28, 2008...
:::
I love my DVR. There is no greater invention than the DVR.* I have decided that there is no reason why I shouldn't live out the remainder of my days watching recorded television. It has given my family freedom like we have not know a part from life with Jesus! No longer are ruled by tv. Your favorite shows on at 8, but your meeting goes till 815? No worries! It'll be on The List. The kids won't go to bed and it's causing you to miss The Office season premiere? Fuhgettaboutit! It's on The List! You want to see the re-runs of The Real Housewives of the OC, but The Rachel Zoe Project is on at the same time? The List will have them both! What entertaining bliss this little device offers!

*Ok, so maybe there are inventions greater than the DVR. The wheel--that was a pretty good one. Sliced bread--that was another smart idea. Oh and that whole electricity thing worked out ok, too.
:::
As you can see I never got past gushing about Rachel Zoe. Rightfully so! She's worth an entire post! Someday I will do a post about what's on my dvr because I think it would cathartic to let the world know about all my tv watching habits.
You're on pins and needles waiting for that post aren't you!?
Give me a few years and I'll get right on that!

I don't watch live television any more, unless it's the morning news. I can't do it, I tell you. The commercials are enough to send anyone to the looney bin. They're so obnoxious! And don't even get me started on shows like The Biggest Loser! I love it, but I hate, HATE, THE GAME. If you watch this show, you know just what I mean. So a two-hour show of nothing but DRAMA, only takes about 35 minutes of my time. I just fast forward through all the commercials and pointless interviews about who said what about so-and-so. Beautiful.
I thought that perhaps I would take post about the different shows I watch from time to time. The other night my post was written while I was watching Project Runway from the week before. (That post is the one below this piece of golden blogging.)
Today, we're going to discuss my new love, The Rachel Zoe Project. Ahhh...cheesy reality shows about quasi-famous people and their drama-filled, ratings-choreographed daily lives. Waste of valuable time or useful tool for greater appreciation of my own beautiful life void of drama?

Anyway, back to Rachel Zoe (Zoh, not Zo-ey).... Isn't she pretty? She's fashion. She's blonde. She's bi-coastal. She's just plain fun to watch!
For those of you who are thinking, "Huh? Who is Rachel Zoe?" This is what Bravo has to say...
The Rachel Zoe Project is a docu-drama that follows celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe and her trusted inner circle -- husband Rodger and fashion team, Taylor and Brad -- as they endeavor to take Zoe's business to the next level. In the series, the perfectly styled, go-to force among "it" starlets, fashion houses, beauty firms, and magazine editors will give viewers a fly on the wall look at how she juggles constant deadlines, fashion shows, and celebrity clients.
This last week the team was in NYC for fashion week and Brad and Taylor

I know I know
I've been a bit MIA on here lately. I'm not sure what my reasons are. I know I have them, but trying to formulate them into complete thoughts with quirky one lines for a spanky post aren't happenin' for me right now. Soooo...it is on my to-do list, so I will do it. I promise. I also promise to post more often, not just tell you why I'm not posting every couple months. Mmm kay?
Now that the air is clear, I thought I'd let you in on a little project I'm starting. Actually I've already been doing this but I've decided to welcome some accountability into my life and join with a bunch of other bloggers.
Woo-hoo for accountabiblty!

I've joined the 30 x 5 challenge over at 2nd Cup of Coffee. You do 30 minutes of excercise a day, five days a week. And it's only for two weeks. You can do that!
Here's the kicker...You have to blog about it then. Ok, that right there will get me into major trouble because you all know how I haven't been blogging at. all. lately. So sorry.
Now, I must go and get my heart pumping. I have 30 minutes till my family gets home and will want to eat.
PS. I'll let you know how it goes.

Diaper Bag Dilemma
I realized last week that the diaper bag I had previously gotten was not going to work for me after all, at least not yet. It's a great bag for a short little trip to the store or for dad. I am quite sure that by the time this babe is a year or so it will be perfect. (You know, when I'm not hauling around 5 extra outfits, 3 blankets, 12 diapers, and 4 extra burp cloths, not to mention the bottles and formula that may be needed.) So anyway, I am on a mission for another bag.
Here's what I've found...

(Sorry for the small picture.)

(This bag may end up being too big.)

(I would much rather have this one, but the lining is covered in dollar signs. Are you kidding me? For a diaper bag? How much more inappropriate can you get!?)
So that's the list of bags I love. Who knows what I'll end up with. I am going to run up to TJ Maxx later to see if there are any non-diaper bags that would work as a diaper bag for me. I may hit Ross and Marshalls too if my swollen feet cooperate.

And I Was Freaking Out Yesterday!
"There's not much holding this baby in," said the midwife.
Oh dear! I thought. I've got so much to do.
"You're a good centimeter dilated and your cervix is very ripe. The baby's head is quite low. Any day now."
Oh! Dear!

If you haven't twittered yet, you really must! I started a couple weeks ago to amuse my husband and I see now how addictive it is. You really must start now and be sure to add me to your list of friends... I'm melissajanel. As I go into labor I'll be posting as much as I can on twitter, so if for no other reason that that, you must sign up today. You might also want to add scottieb to your list as The Music Man may take over the posting from time to time.

Hitting the Wall
I know I told you that I would write a Birthday Week Wrap-up on Saturday, but if you take a look at this, you'll know why that never happened. It's on my list of things to do, so maybe in the next week(s) I'll get to it, but I can't guarantee any promptness.

Two and a Half Pounds
I had a appointment this morning with my midwife. Everything looks good. Nothing out of the ordinary. Still right on schedule. Less than six weeks till D-day. Weight gain is "good" (that really is a relative term). Baby Boy is head down and still very active. I'm pre-registered and authorized for my hospital stay. A circumcision is planned. It seems as though all the little pieces are finally starting to fall into place. That's good, because as I've said before, I'm ready to have this baby.
:::
I realized at my appointment this morning that we don't have any towels or washcloths on our registry, so I just added those. (I know, how random was that?! I'm sorry.)
:::
Have I mentioned that the four names The Music Man and I agreed on a few weeks back are now all on my I-don't-like-these-names-anymore list? What a tragedy! We have to start all over... AGAIN!!!

Bowl Full of Baby
Here are the much anticipated belly shots. I took these myself last week. I had spent the day washing baby boy clothes in Dreft and was putting them away. I was so tired that I just laid down right on the kids' floor. I had been taking pictures of the baby clothes, so camera was still in hand. I began to snap pictures of my belly. This is what I got...
I had a bit of a rough start...

Ok, so there you go. My belly as of a week ago. They're probably already inaccurate. I'm 31 weeks now, which means I have less than 9 to go. Things are progressing nicely and I no longer feel the ongoing panic that I'M NOT READY!!! Now I just have organizational OCD that hits from time to time.
Oh and by the way, we narrowed the millions of names down to four solid collections (first and middle names). We couldn't narrow it down any further last night, so we decided to put it away for a a bit and review it later. I'm kinda thinking now that we should just take this list with us to the hospital and see who this little guy ends up being. I'll let you know what we decide to do.

Random Pictures
I finally downloaded the pictures from my camera of the last month. We haven't been especially busy, but I've been documenting our lives moment by moment. Sooo... Here are some of the more random shots...

(I'm not mad. I promise.... Just exhausted!)

Random Scott and Natalie:
First golf lesson at Golf Galaxy...
Look at that grip!
Father/Daughter Baking...
Random self shots:
Ask my husband why this. He took it, along with one of my ch**t, my b*tt, and my eye. (Sorry... I had to edit per The Music Man.)
I will soon show you all the shots taken this day, but I'm giving you a sneak peak of how incredibly tired I was on this day... (Ugh! Look at those roots! I'm so ashamed!)
Random Closet Shots:
A few of my favorite outfits for the man-child, who is still nameless, I might add.
This is just too adorable!
I wore this when I was a baby, but I remember it most on a baby doll I had named Mary Lou or was it Amy?
I bought this the day we found out we were having a boy.
Round on the ends and high in the middle... Oh - Hi - Oh. (Really this isn't on my list of favorites, but I know it's at the top of my husband's, so it made this list of random shots.)
And because we live in Maryland, I just had to have this!
Here are a couple random belly-ish shots:
Cool, right?
I have tried my hardest to NOT wear maternity shirts if at all possible this pregnancy. They're just too mammoth. I feel so fat in them rather than pregnant. This shirt was on the clearance rounder in the Junior's section at Target. God bless the designers who decided long, full shirts are the latest style!
More to pictures and posts to come soon...

Panic!? What Panic!?
I have mastered the panic! At least I hope so.
This weekend I had a near meltdown. My sympathetic husband's solution was to take me to Babies R' Us and let me go nuts. $160 later I was beginning to feel better. I came home and went through the stuff packed away in Natalie's closet, pulled out the things I thought I might need with this next baby.
Ahhh....
After dinner Scott helped me get to the gigantic bins filled with baby clothes in the basement and I sorted through all the pink frills to find a handful of yellow, green, and blue things to put on my man-child.
Ahhh....
Yesterday I washed and dyed burp clothes in hues of blue, green, orange, tan, and brown. (More to come on that later this week.) By late last night, I was physically exhausted from all the bustling activity, but mentally I couldn't stop myself.
I had a hard time waking up this morning, but when I did, I literally jumped out of bed (what a sight that was) and jumped right into my day. I stripped the beds completely naked (as Natalie says) and got those going. Breakfast is next on the agenda and then we are off to Target. I order a couple things online and unfortunately they aren't going to work, so I'm returning them. I need to get some Dreft and then it's back home to begin washing baby things. By 2 o'clock this afternoon I will probably be absolutely exhausted, but I will feel so much better about the fact that my son will be here in roughly 10-11 weeks.
Next on the list: Begin posting maternity clothes and girly baby clothes on ebay.
Purge! Purge!! Purge!!! It's the nectar of life!
