No Stairway to Heaven

:::BIG SIGH:::

I just finished climbing ALL the stairs in my house 17-ish times, and I wasn't trying to exercise. As you may recall, we have just a few stairs in our house... My laundry room is in the basement, so I was already run up and down doing a couple of loads of laundry. After switching out the last loads and folding the freshly washed clothes, I sat down to finish my book (mmm...Redeeming Love...my favorite!!!)
With that finished and my heart all cried out, I decided to do something crafty. Well, sort of... I'm just framing some pictures for my bedroom. Some of my things were obviously in my bedroom, (the empty frames that had been hanging on my wall since the end of January), some were on the main level in the living room, and still more was in the basement.
So away I went...upstairs to get the frames... down to the basement to get the mats... while down there I grabbed the pictures some paper and a gluestick... back upstairs for my scissors... back down to the basement for the mats I had originally gone down for... back up to my room to get my phone which I had left up there on my last visit... and finally back down to the living room to write this post, watch some HGTV, and frame my pictures.
:::sigh:::
As I was running up and down all those stairs I kept marveling at the fact that I wasn't getting winded at all. Just shy of a year ago when we moved in here my legs hurt for days and I dreaded having to go up and down them. I don't even think about it anymore. My legs never hurt, even when I've been gone for a couple days. I've conditioned my self to having 18 million stairs. (Only a slight exaggeration.) I used to think the amount of stairs in this house was out of control (just keep reading--my thoughts on my steps are all the way at the bottom), but I'm grateful for them, because they've made me stronger---literally.
A friend of mine once told me AFTER I had delivered Natalie that walking steps would have helped me do better in labor and delivery! She also tried to feed me this soup that was supposed to make my breastmilk come in more, but all it did was make me vomit. I'm sure she was totally right about the steps and the soup, but I wasn't in any frame of mind at the time to believe her. If she could see me now, I know what she'd say... she'd say in her cute Chinese accent, "Melissa, your next babies are just going to fall out because of all these stairs!" Let's just pray they do, my friend, let's pray they do!

  1. I just love your blog!!! You have the coolest layout and info on here. Love the Oceans 13 trailer. We are going to see that this weekend, tomorrow probably. We have decided we are going to need a separate "going to the movies" budget for all the good ones that are coming out this summer. I showed my Mom the pictures on here of Alethia and Natalie. She couldn't get over how gorgeous they both were, and how adorable little Joshua is. We all miss you!!! Love you lots!!!

  2. Awwwww! I love the picture on here. I haven't seen or heard about her in a long time. Do you know where they are living now?

    P.S. I'm impressed that you can walk up and down all those steps so well!

  3. Alex and Viola are living in Atlanta now. She still have just the three kids. Alex has started his own import business. Last I heard, they were doing really well. My parents go down to see them from time to time. Joel will be 6 in a couple weeks. Jamie will be 5 in the fall, and Jaden will be 4 this coming winter. Can you even believe it's been that long!!!

  4. BTW, Liz--Ocean's 13---not as good as the other 2, still really good, but not AS good as the others, in my opinion. Pirates---Definately worth it!! Even more so than Ocean's and Ocean's movies are my all-time favorite movies! End of the World is my favorite Pirates--it's so cool! Hope you like them too. Let me know what you guys think of them.

  5. Oh My that picture of your sister-in-law is hilarious! I love it! I know what you mean about steps...and I hate having to take laundry from my upstairs all the way down to the basement! I wish I had a laundry shoot! At least we are getting our legs in shape.......:)

  6. Tell me about it! Liz has a shoot and I want to shoot her for that... :) I think Stacey has one too. We could take them both on and I think, given our combined brute force (due to the muscles we have acquired through our stairs) we could take 'em out in a matter of seconds!!

    What is with me today? I'm so spicey!

  7. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Let's!!!! or else get our handy hubby's with their big muscles to combine forces and build us some shoots so we wouldn't have to use our own brute strength we've acquired from climbing our stairs on something so trivial! (wow that's a run-on sentence!)We need to save our strength for other things....;)

  8. Hahaha! You and Jessica are cracking me up! But just so you know, I think a laundry chute is the greatest thing I have ever had and I wouldn't go down without a fight!!!!!

    I love the new photo of the week. I ended up stealing your idea and it is so much fun!

  9. Girlfriends...I just have one thing to say... strong leg muscles have served me well in many capacities--the most rewarding is the joy my husband has when he gets stuck in them, if you catch my drift. 'Nuff said?

  11. Okay....a few things to comment on. First of all, I will fight to the death for my laundry chute. Stacey and I love ours so much, there is no way you "chuteless" girls would take us out!!!

    Next thing. Love, love, love the comment about your strong legs! Your husband will be blushing when he reads that comment.

    Last thing...was your picture of the week taken on your honeymoon?!? Tell Scott, "Nice cannonball!" :)

    I love you dearly, you beautiful ladies!!!

  12. You know, I have to take that picture off. It creeps me out to open this page and see a man's naked butt. And no, it's not Scott, although he has done some really stupid things that have definitely screwed up romance! haven't they all?!

  13. OK...The Naked Butt did scare me just whee bit!....and I noticed that I spelled shoot(chute) wrong! SHOOT! Butt...:) the strong leg comment sent me over the edge....I almost fell out of my chair! heeheeheehee!!!
